THE ROLE:
As our Wire Eroder Department Leader, you will have a unique opportunity to establish, develop and lead a brand-new Wire Erosion department from the ground up. Initially working with a United Machining CUT F 350 Wire EDM machine, you will be responsible for programming, setting and operating the machine while ensuring components are produced safely, efficiently and to the highest quality standards.
As the department grows, you will play a key role in shaping its future by developing processes, procedures, standards and training programmes, while leading and supporting new team members. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Wire EDM professional looking to take ownership of a department and help drive its success.
Key Responsibilities
- Set, program and operate Wire EDM machinery to produce precision-engineered components
- Read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications
- Develop and implement department SOPs, processes and workflows
- Plan and prioritise production to meet customer requirements and lead times
- Maintain quality standards and support continuous improvement initiatives
- Manage machinery, tooling and consumables
- Support department expansion, including training and developing future team members
- Ensure all work complies with company Health & Safety standards
- Collaborate with Production, Engineering, Inspection and Management teams
- Take ownership of departmental performance, efficiency and capability growth
What We’re Looking For:
Essential Skills & Experience:
- Proven experience operating Wire EDM/Wire Erosion equipment
- Strong experience in Wire Erosion machine setting, programming and operation
- Ability to create, edit and optimise Wire Erosion programs
- Strong understanding of engineering drawings, tolerances and quality requirements
- Good understanding of machining processes and manufacturing principles
- Excellent problem-solving and fault-finding skills
- High attention to detail and quality standards
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of responsibilities
- Strong organisational, planning and time-management skills
- Experience developing procedures, standards and documented processes
- Ability to train, support and develop colleagues
- Strong commitment to Health & Safety
- Positive, proactive and continuous improvement mindset
Preferred:
- Previous experience leading or supervising a manufacturing department
- Experience establishing new processes, procedures and workflows
- Knowledge of continuous improvement methodologies
- Experience supporting business growth and department expansion
- Experience working within a precision engineering or aerospace environment
The Package:
- Shift: Day Shift: Monday-Friday 08.00am -16.30pm (40hrs)
- Competitive Salary: £38,000 -£45,000 depending on experience.
